The Challenges

Anser staff provided technical leadership and project coordination for a utility’s Distribution Field Engineering and Interconnection teams as part of this energy storage project. This project resulted from the California Public Utilities Commission's fast-track of approximately 100MW of energy storage within the utility’s service territory in response to a natural gas leak at a natural gas facility that impacted service reliability to utility customers. To meet the necessary grid demands, the fast-track project was to interconnect these energy storage units within four months (a process that can take up to two years). This included interconnection and commissioning the 20 MW energy storage units within the utility system at a substation. Anser staff led the Distribution Field Engineering teams through the technical interconnection process to ensure consistency.
